Eva Cervellino
Eva Cervellino (born in 1978 in the province of Varese, Italy) I create paintings and media art.
Rejecting objective truth and global cultural narratives, I try to grasp language. Transformed into art, language becomes ornament.
At that moment many ambiguities and indistinctities inherent to the phenomenon come to the surface.
My paintings focus on the inability of communication used to visualize reality, the attempt at dialogue, the dissonance between form and content and the dysfunctions of language .
In short, the lack of clear references are key elements of my work.
My works appear like dream images in which fiction and reality meet, meanings change, past and present merge. Time and memory always play a key role. Applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, he creates with everyday and recognizable elements, an unprecedented situation in which the spectator is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and must reconsider his biased position.
My paintings often refer to pop culture, using written and drawn symbols, a world is created where carefreeness reigns and where rules are undermined.
Investigating language at a meta-level, he touches on various overlapping themes and strategies.
Several recurring topics can be recognised, such as the relationship with popular culture and the media, working with repetition, provocation and investigating the process of expectations.
