Alessandra Sonia Romano, a Milanese violinist of Molise origin, graduated in violin from the Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, then continued her studies in Geneva and graduated from the Conservatory “Benedetto Marcello” in Venice.
She refined her skills with international masters in Italy, France, Israel, and Germany. A decisive moment in her training was meeting Dorothy DeLay from the Juilliard School in New York, who encouraged her to develop a solo career. She then completed her specialization at the Royal College of Music in London under the guidance of Itzhak Rashkovsky, obtaining the title of Associate of the Royal College of Music – Violin Performing.
Upon returning to Italy, she held the role of first violin and soloist of the Orchestra Ritmica of RAI in Milan, under the direction of Ettore Righello, collaborating with important national orchestras. She later chose to dedicate herself to solo and chamber music activities.
In parallel, she deepened her knowledge of Jewish music, studying at Kibbutz Eilon in Galilee and specializing in the repertoire of Ernest Bloch.
Since 2016, she has been an interpreter and ambassador of the Violin of the Shoah, which belonged to Eva Maria Levy, a young violinist deported to Birkenau.
With this symbolic instrument, she has performed in numerous prestigious contexts, bringing a message of memory and awareness: from the Senate of the Republic to the Central Synagogue of Milan, from the Birkenau camp to the IHRA Plenary in Ferrara, up to the Epiphany Concert broadcast on Eurovision by RAI 1 in 2019.
Since 2017, she has been performing regularly in a duo with pianist Bruno Canino, with whom she also recorded the DVD La musica di Napoleone for Riverrecords.
In 2022, she performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto with orchestra at the Church of San Marco in Milan with the Orchestra UNIMI, in memory of Eng. Carlo Alberto Carutti.
Author of the book I violini e la loro anima (Interlinea, 2021), born during the lockdown from a series of online lessons, she weaves music, art, and science into her narrative.
She is the founder of the Associazione Serenata Italiana, active in cultural and social promotion through musical projects in peripheral areas.
Since 2017, she has been a member of the Rotary Club of Milan, with which she organizes cultural events and solidarity initiatives.
