SORRIDIDONNA programma

The exhibition "SORRIDIDONNA... at your pain smile anyway" at the Galleria Due Punti in Varese, curated by Manuela Codazzi, will truly be a special journey

We want to pay homage to the Woman, not only with her works exhibited inspired by her but also with poems together with a great musical embrace, always feminine and of particular importance.

The first appointment is Saturday 4 March, at 3.30 pm with the poetic reading by Salima Martignoni and the poignant music of the original Violino della Shoah to which the internationally renowned violinist Alessandra Sonia Romano gives voice.

It is a violin that survived the Holocaust and tells a profound and insightful story. It is the story of a violin that ended up in a concentration camp in Auschwitz: the instrument will be saved but its young owner, Cicci, will not be saved, who will continue to speak to us through her poignant notes skillfully interpreted by this great musician, Alessandra Sonia Romano.

Alessandra Sonia Romano
Below is a profile of this musician.

Alessandra Sonia Romano was born in Milan, she studied at the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan, completed the high school course studying in Geneva and later graduating from the "Benedetto Marcello" Conservatory in Venice.

He has attended master classes with the most important violinists in Italy, France, Israel and Germany. After graduating she was invited to audition with the famous violinist and teacher Dorothy Delay at the "Julliard School" in New York, who, after having encouraged her to continue her solo specialization, reported her to the "Royal College of Music" of London, where he studied with Itzhak Rashkovsky obtaining the prestigious degree for soloists “Associate of the Royal College of Music – Violin Preforming”.

Passionate about Jewish music, she specialized at Kibbutz Eilon in the Galilee, in particular studying Ernest Bloch's violin repertoire. Since December 2016, she has been chosen as the violinist of the "violin of the Shoah", an instrument of extraordinary historical importance as it belonged to a young violinist deported to the Birkenau concentration camp. With this violin, he is giving many solo concerts in Italy and abroad, and plays on important and touching occasions, such as the meeting between the cardinal of Milan Angelo Scola and the chief rabbi Alfonso Arbib, at the Central Synagogue of Milan, or for the journey “In the Remembrance Train” where she brought back the violin after 72 years playing it in Birkenau Field, and the next day she performed at the Nowa Huta Theater in Krakow.

Salima martignoni

We will also have among us at the Vernissage the well-known poetess of our area Salima Martignoni of whom we describe a brief profile.

Salima Martignoni, a poetess from Varese, has written over 300 mostly intimate poems. In 2000 you published the book of poetic prose "Yesterday, today and tomorrow engraved on stone".

In 2015 she published the collection of poems "Il tempo del travaglio" Kairos editions which she presented several times in the province, the first in October 2015 at the Feltrinelli with great success with the public and critics, as well as at "Casa Merini" in Milan

She has organized numerous artistic events on the occasion of World Poetry Day on March 31, with poetry readings of her own and of other authors such as Merini, Pozzi, Achmatova etc., on the occasion of the day against violence against women (November 25) always combining poetry with other forms of art. Her book "Il tempo del travaglio" won third place in a poetry contest named after Antonia Pozzi. She is present in various poetic anthologies, among which we mention "Poets in Varese" published by Nem editions in 2014. She loves to define herself as a poet for passion
Coro Anemone

Finally, we will close this splendid experience on Saturday 11 March at 3.30 pm with another form of art, the art of the voices, with the ANEMONE CHOIR which will cheer us up with exciting and extremely busy songs.

Below is some information on this all-female choir.

The ANEMONE CHOIR was born in 2022 from a group of female voices who had already collaborated on a previous musical project.

The anemone is the flower of the wind, the vital breath of the seasons, of hope. The auspices evoked by the chosen name inspired the new choir of female voices, made up of nine choristers, with the happy and generous intention of telling and affirming, with a varied repertoire, the indispensable presence of music and poetry in everyone's everyday life our.

It's a female vocal project, a choice linked to a specific sound and timbre that embraces the high frequencies of the audible.

The choir is directed by M° Cristina Majocchi and is accompanied on the piano by M° Angela Villa.

We would be delighted if our great commitment and that of all those who made the realization of this event possible could also offer a rich audience participation capable of appreciating so much beauty.
